The wine tasting, which has become a staple of the Hattiesburg community, will once again benefit local non-profit organization Extra Table.

"We're always excited to partner up with Extra Table to help raise money for a cause that we really believe in,” said Dusty Frierson, Purple Parrot wine director. “We're also proud to have an event like this in Hattiesburg. The fact that we're able to get 30 winemakers from around the globe and more than 100 world-class wines still amazes me."

Through the years, the tasting event has become known as a one-of-a-kind experience for the region. The festival features 30 or more winemakers and vendors from around the world, some traveling from as far as Australia, Spain, Germany and beyond. Attendees also get the unique experience of face-to-face time to meet the winemakers and vineyard owners who make each of the wines possible.

With more than 110 wines to sample and food provided by host restaurant Purple Parrot Café, festival-goers get to enjoy a world-class event while contributing to an important local cause.

This year, the festival hopes to attract attendees from all across the Pine Belt, including young professionals.

"This wine festival is a great opportunity to get young professionals engaged in a charitable giving, while also enjoying a top-notch event,” said Stacy Ahua, program coordinator for Extra Table. “We hope that everyone from throughout Pine Belt and surrounding areas will come together to support a worthy cause."

For the past five years, the Purple Parrot Wine Festival has partnered with Extra Table, an organization that works to fight hunger in Mississippi, to host the event. One hundred percent of proceeds from the March 31 event will be donated to Extra Table to aid in its mission of providing new, healthy food to those who need it most.

"There is simply no better opportunity in the Pine Belt for both those interested in and those well-versed to be able to taste and talk fine and unique wines. And they can do it all in the name supporting a great cause," said Michael Dixon, executive director of Extra Table.

Tickets for the Purple Parrot Wine Festival are on sale now for $75 per person. Tickets can be purchased via www.eventbrite.com, extratable.com or through the Extra Table office at 601.264.0672.
