On Saturday, May 6, Southern Oaks House and Gardens will be filled with “Southern charm” at its highest level, as the Pink Ribbon Fund hosts a truly Southern event depicting aspects of the South, as we all know it. “The Tea” is known as a custom in the South of women who gather to drink tea and catch up on each other’s lives. Therefore, this is the new theme for this year’s event.
“The Tea will bring everyone together to enjoy the new theme and the new location,” said Kaye Ray, PRF administrator. Guests are also invited, not required, to wear dresses and party hats and become a “true Southern belle” for just a few hours. There will be prizes for the “Prettiest in Pink” and for the “Best Dressed Southern Belle.”
Janie Walters, a motivational speaker, a human communications specialist, and has more than 25 years of teaching interpersonal communications, will be the guest speaker. The Madison resident has authored two books, “Develop the Habit of Joy” and “Blow a Bubble – Not a Gasket: 101 Ways to Reduce Stress and Add Fun to Your Life.”
So, come prepared for some laughter and lots of fun as she brings a beautiful and inspiring message.
Beautifully-designed tables will seat 10 and are being decorated by local Pine Belt designers. There will be three “People’s Choice Awards” with guests submitting their votes for the best/prettiest tables.
Beverly Fox-Bray, coordinator of “The Tea,” is working with Lisa Cade Pierce, Southern Oaks event coordinator/manager to oversee the tea and food service. Fox-Bray has been coordinating teas for the Pink Ribbon Fund for a number of years.
Multi-talented artisan Vixon Sullivan will again honor guests of “The Tea” by designing a beautiful pendant, which will be won by one person at each table. Sullivan is also designing one of the tables for the event.
A highlight of “The Tea” will be the drawing of one lucky raffle ticket. The winner will take home a 14-karat white gold necklace with graduated diamonds, donated by Lights Jewelers and Gemologists. Tickets are one for $10; three for $20; and eight for $50. Tickets may be purchased from any Pink Ribbon Fund volunteer.
A Silent Auction will also be a feature of “The Tea.”
“Many wonderful, beautiful, amazing, fabulous… (need I go on) items have been donated for the silent auction,” said Ray. Be prepared for auction items to call your name. Many thanks to those who have donated the items for the auction.
“Without the continued and generous support of our sponsors and those who donate and participate in our events, Pink Ribbon Fund could not continue the compassionate financial assistance for breast cancer residents in the Pine Belt for their diagnosis and treatment,” Ray said. “Many thanks to everyone who has helped Pink Ribbon Fund be the successful organization it is.”
Ray also advises everyone to purchase tickets now.
“This event has been a sellout each year,” she said. Tickets are $35 for individuals, $350 for a Table of 10.
