Music lineup announced for 2017 Best of the Pine Belt Award Show

The musical lineup has been finalized for the 2017 Best of the Pine Belt Award Show and this year's batch of local artists represents the best of local music.

Topping the list of performers at this year's revamped (and shorter) award show is Grammy Award nominee Vasti Jackson, who will make his first apperance on the Best of the Pine Belt Stage. Jackson, who tours internationally, will perform a track from from his nominated album, The Soul of Jimmie Rodgers. 

Joining Jackson for their inaugural appearance on the BOPB stage is Mississippi Shakedown, the high-powered duo of Wes Sanderford
and Chad Edward Cox. Also on tap is a special performance by The Pine Belt Pickers with Scott Chism and the Better Half and Galen Martin and the Crutches.

Returning to rock this year's award show is Paul Johnson and the About Last Nights, the Jones County-based quartet featuring Johnson on vocals/guitars, Zack Lewis on drums, Daniel Williamson on guitars, and Jordan May on bass and keys. Also returning is local pop band The DLX. After taking a year off from performing at the award show, Hattiesburg's Southbound Crescent Band will also return.

The artists will perform throughout the evening while a dozen featured Best of the Pine Belt awards are handed out. This year's featured awards include: Best Pine Belt Personality, Best Local Bartender, Best Bank, Best Live Musical Act, Most-Effective Non Profit, Best Musical Duo/Group, Best Local Chef, Best Medical Clinic, Local Album of the Year, Best Mover and Shaker, Best Unsung Hero, and Best Behind-The-Scenester.

This year's award show, scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 3 will once again be held at Hattiesburg's historic Saenger Theater. Advance tickets are $20 and are now available at www.SignatureMagazine.ms/shop  A free pre-show, red carpet block party will kick off at 6 p.m. featuring DJ Todd Tomorrow spinning vinyl from the steps of Hattiesburg City Hall and at 7 p.m., the party moves inside with Friends Fly South performing straight up until time for the show to begin.
