The American Heart Association's 2018 Heart Gala is set from 6-9 p.m. Friday, May 4, at the Waller/Dawe Home.
This is a core fundraising event that raises funds to fight our nation’s No. 1 (heart disease) and No. 5 (stroke) killers. It is because of events like the Heart Gala that stents and bypass surgery are possible today, education is available for the public, millions are trained in CPR, quality care is improved in hospitals and stronger public policies are in place.
During the past eight years, the Heart Gala has raised more than $1 million to fund the mission in the state. The event will feature extraordinary silent auctions items from local businesses, heavy hors . provided by Southern Oaks, an open bar sponsored by Lincoln Road Package Store, Hattiesburg Coca-Cola and Stokes Distributing, as well as live entertainment by Charles Carter.
This year’s event will honor two outstanding physicians, Dr. Richard Galloway, endocrinologist and Dr. Robert Wilkins, cardiologist, who have dedicated themselves to helping individuals live healthier lives.
“We are looking forward to a very fun and entertaining event this year with our two outstanding honorees,” said Millie Swan, 2018 event chairperson. “I have been blessed to work in healthcare and witness firsthand the amazing stories of those who have benefitted from the procedures and advancements in heart-related care. The testimonials of these individuals touch you emotionally and make your realize how important it is to support organizations like the American Heart Association. This organization makes a difference in so many lives and it’s wonderful that we can come together to support and honor two of our local physicians who make a difference for individuals each day. Thank you to all our sponsors and supporters of this year’s event.”
