The Hattiesburg Arts Council looks forward to bringing-in the Christmas season with a concert of carols and holiday songs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, at the Hattiesburg Cultural Center.
Few will forget, and so many remember, the amazing voice of tenor Leo Day, graduate and former professor from William Carey University. Day’s voice and charisma on stage will kick off your Christmas spirit and prepare you for the joy and reason of the season. Performing alongside Day are pianist, Dr. Nathan Burggraff, and cellist, Rebekah Stark Johnson, former cello instructor at University of Southern Mississippi, William Carey University and presently serving as the executive director for the Hattiesburg Arts Council.
Day and Stark-Johnson have performed together for more than 25 years on many stages and are excited to present the new release of the Christmas CD, “Wake up! Christ Has Come!” recorded and produced in Dallas, Texas, for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where Day presently holds the position as dean and professor of voice at the School of Church Music.
“We are so excited to play this concert in Hattiesburg because we have so many friends and memories of music making here together, especially performing music of our favorite composer, professor and acting dean of the School of Music at William Carey University, Dr. Howard Keever,” says Stark-Johnson. “Howard has arranged music for the two of us through the years, and we are thrilled to finally share his Christmas arrangements with our Hattiesburg audience. His use of intricate rhythms and flowing lines skillfully blends each of our voices into one soulful sound that leaves our audiences with the desire to hear more.”
CDs will be available for purchase after the performance, and this disc will make the perfect gift to share with your friends, family and employees. Everyone needs a new CD to add to a Christmas music collection, and this will be a memorable concert that you will want in your home for many Christmases to come.
Tickets are available for purchase on line at: HattiesburgArtsCouncil.org prior to the performance for $15 or available at the door. The doors will open at 7 p.m. for early seating. Dress up and be prepared to hear the joyous sounds of Christmas with Leo Day and friends.
